Trash the Dress!

A gallery of extraordinary brides. (It’s about creation, not destruction)

Important Notice! We are trashing this website!- Please read. January 26, 2008

Filed under: Trash the Dress — markeric @ 3:59 pm

The time for this website has come to and end. Up until now, TTD has been hosted at www.trashthedress.wordpress.com (a simple wordpress blog). Over the next few weeks, we will be moving to our new and permanent domain, www.trashthedress.com. From now on, you will only be able to access new TTD postings by going to www.trashthedress.com. The wordpress blog will no longer be active (although all current posts will remain)- so please update your bookmarks and rss feeds.

If you are an e-mail subscriber, your subscribtion should be automatically updated. If you are an RSS subscriber, you will need to subscribe to the new feed, http://trashthedress.com/rss/feed.xml

For photographers on our referral listing, you should have received an e-mail from us. If not, we need a logo, and paragraph about your business to add you to our new and improved referral listing. You’re going to love it! If you are a photographer wishing to be added to the referral list, please use the “Sign Up” tab on the new site.

Thanks to Flosites for doing an amazing job on our new site.

Congrats to our own Denise Neufeld, Published! January 25, 2008

Denise has been huge supporter of ours since we launched this blog in late 2005. In fact, it was Denise who helped spread the word to other photographers about our new site. I originally invited members of one of my favorite photography forums- www.opensourcephoto.com by David Jay, to submit their TTD sessions for this fun little project. All I ever really expected was to get a few hits, and have lots of fun showing off our amazing brides. Denise saw the site as something much bigger. She took the initiative to spread the word on another forum that I’ve since joined- and love, www.digitalweddingforum.com. The photographers on these two forums loved the concept, and have supported the website whole heartedly. (We still urge any photographer to become a member of these two forums, they are both tremendous assets to help you learn, grow, and remain creative).

Photographers on another forum (which we won’t name) said that they could never see “their” brides doing this, and shut down the thread without hesitation.
We’ve received our share of criticism from the photography community for our light hearted way of showing Brides that the day belongs to them, and they should enjoy it. Our point was simple- if they get a spot on their dress, it’s ok! We urge brides not to be so uptight about getting the dress dirty that they become a statue during the wedding. Have fun, - take the time to actually enjoy it. And if they want to take it further by “trashing” the dress, we will certainly have fun and get some great pictures while doing it. Our goal never was to destroy wedding dresses, only to create great art for our clients. When the focus of a Trash the Dress session is on the dress- it’s for the wrong reasons. The focus should always be on creating artwork that the Bride will be proud of.

Denise, thanks for your insight and willingness to see that Bride’s truly are looking for more creative photography- and that this was the perfect platform to introduce those brides to some of the most creative photographers in the industry, you being one of them. Congratulations on being published in Wedding Inside Out this month. The pictures are gorgeous as usual, and we are very proud of you.

New Contest- Sepia! January 24, 2008

Filed under: contests — markeric @ 9:30 pm

We are launching a new contest for professional photographers. Send us your favorite Sepia Image (no more than one per photographer). We only have 2 rules for this contest.

1. It must be Sepia- not black and white, not color.
2. It must be wedding related.

Other than that, it’s open. It doesn’t have to be a recent image. We don’t care if it is a traditional shot, a photo journalistic shot, or a creative set up shot. Be YOURSELF, we want to see what the artist in you loves to capture, (or even create). Winners will be judged by our readers.

Send all images sized 550 long to mark@trashthedress.com. Please refrain from putting logos and branding on the picture, we want to give everyone an equal chance of winning. The winner will receive a full profile interview on Trash the Dress.com.

Submission Deadline - 1/31/2008.

We are also looking for Sepia Photoshop actions and Lightroom presets to make available to all of our readers. If you have created a Sepia action or preset that would like to give away, please send us a link. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
